The volcano in Iceland, which spewed ash forcing many European airlines to shut down and stranded hundreds and thousands of travelers may also delay the funeral of Polish President Lech Kaczynski, who died along with 95 others in a plane crash over Russia last Saturday. President Barack Obama is among the leaders scheduled to attend the state funeral on Sunday in Krakow. This story just keeps getting sadder and sadder:

A volcanic ash cloud that has shut down Europe’s airports threatened on Friday to delay a state funeral for Polish President Lech Kaczynski due to be attended by world leaders including President Barack Obama.

Tens of thousands of mourners continued to file past the coffins of Kaczynski and his wife Maria in Warsaw’s presidential palace. Some had been waiting up to 18 hours to view the coffins, a measure of the grief felt by many Poles over the worst single disaster to hit their country since World War Two.

The heads of Poland’s armed forces, its central bank governor and opposition lawmakers were also among the 96 people killed last Saturday when their aging Tupolev plane crashed in thick fog while trying to land near Smolensk in western Russia.

Jacek Sasin, a member of Poland’s presidential administration, said senior officials would meet later on Friday to analyze the situation and would then make a final decision.

“(A delay) would be the last resort. For now we’re monitoring the situation,” Sasin told reporters.

Obama, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nicolas Sarkoy and dozens of other heads of state and government and royalty are all scheduled to attend Sunday’s funeral in Krakow.

The volcano in distant Iceland has been spewing ash into the atmosphere since Wednesday, causing air traffic disruption on a scale not seen since the September 11 attacks in 2001 and leaving hundreds of thousands of travelers stranded across Europe.

Volcanic ash contains tiny particles of glass and pulverized rock that can damage engines and airframes. Experts say the ash could cause problems to air traffic for up to six months if the eruption continues.

The news comes following the recent revelation that Nicki gave longtime manager Deb Antney her walking papers:

A source close to the entrepreneur/rapper has confirmed to Billboard.com that Diddy is not only co-managing Lil Wayne protégé Nicki Minaj but also Rick Ross.

While hip-hop bloggers have speculated the firing was due to mismanagement on Antney’s part which consequently caused Minaj to drop out of the tour, Antney revealed to Billboard.com almost a month ago — before the tour was announced — that she no longer was working with Minaj “I’m not gonna sit here and drop a bunch of bombs on her now, even though she really, really disappointed me. Now Nicki did fire me. She did,” Antney said.

According to our source, Minaj subsequently went on to seek management from Troy Carter, Lady Gaga’s manager. Although some websites claim to have confirmed that Carter is co-managing Minaj with Diddy, our source says it isn’t the case and that Gaga pumped the breaks on the deal, threatening to find another manager if Carter took on Minaj as well. When that happened, Carter stepped back and Diddy stepped in, asking one of his own managers, James Cruz, to co-manage Minaj with him instead.

While Diddy’s new connection with Nicki Minaj seems to have come out of left field, it comes as no surprise that he is also working closely with Rick Ross. The two have been appearing together often lately, including on the remix to Waka Flocka’s “O Lets Do It” track. Diddy has also praised Ross’ rapping skills in public as of late, comparing him to the late Notorious B.I.G. “Big shout out to my brother Diddy. We have a big announcement to make real soon, so stay tuned for that,” Ross said on the airwaves during an interview with Power 105.1 DJ Envy earlier this week, alluding to an official announcement of the business move coming soon.

The partnership between the two is poised to go a step further as well; Ross is also rumored to be extensively contributing to the writing of Diddy’s upcoming album.

Def Jam, Interscope and Universal Motown — the labels that Ross, Diddy and Minaj are signed to — could not be reached for comment at press time.
